Early Life
Herwan Legaillard was born in 1990, and he hails from Cherbourg, Manche, France, where he grew up for much of his childhood in nearby Querqueville. His parents are Hervé Legaillard, his father, and Natacha Djebbar, his mother. He was very active and inquisitive, running, jumping, climbing, balancing, and doing handstands at an early age. Eventually he developed an interest in the movement and a passion for circus arts. Under Claude Valognes’ tutelage at the Sol’Air Circus School in Tourlaville, Herwan started his formal circus training at age 10.
The next 10 years Herwan Legaillard spent honing his aerial skills, the flexibility and strength required to be on the rope, and a circus performer’s discipline. Herwan loved everything in the performing arts but was also a student and academic. He obtained his scientific baccalaureate degree and attended the IUT Cherbourg courses in commercial techniques while taking dance lessons and working part-time to fund the education. Later he went on to study at one of the most prestigious circus schools in France—the École Nationale des Arts du Cirque de Rosny (ENACR)—in an attempt to become a better circus performer.
Career
Herwan Legaillard turned into an expert, trained aerialist throughout Europe after a lengthy period of professional training. He danced in theaters, cabarets, theme parks, cruise ships, and live entertainment for his technical accuracy and innovative dancing. Not only has he worked with Cirque du Soleil, luxury entertainment venues, and international festivals, but he has also made his mark in the world of circus arts as well.
Herwan’s international success came first with his audience in the USA as he was picked with a Golden Buzzer on the French television show La France a un Incroyable Talent and was selected for the finals. The show proved to be a productive one, and he had a unique style with his knives up one’s back.
In 2023, Herwan Legaillard appeared on America’s Got Talent, Season 18, for his first time on a TV show in America. It began as a beautiful aerial straps performance but then progressed to a fearless act of sword swallowing while he was upside down on the ceiling of the auditorium! Their judges were quite impressed with this act, especially Simon Cowell and Heidi Klum, who both were impressed by the creativity and an amazing level of control.
However, later reappeared for the live semifinals and mixed in the aerial drop, balancing and sword-swallowing skills to make the act even more perilous. The aim of his performances was not to win the competition but something equivalent that made it memorable over the season, and he hit the mark in the international arena quite a bit.
Herwan Legaillard auditioned on Season 21 of America’s Got Talent in 2026 with a daring act that combined aerial straps and sword swallowing. His performance impressed the judges, earned a standing ovation, and received four Yes votes, sending him to the next round. Apart from on TV, Herwan is also in the world working as a circus artist, creative director, and costume designer and is constantly at large shows and live entertainment events.
